NUCLEAR competitiveness centre - Successful integration for-FERRY CAPITAIN

FERRY CAPITAIN just joined the Nuclear Centre of Bourgogne, nuclear power competitiveness centre.

The French government initiated in 2004-2005 a strong political initiative to support innovation and development around local centres. Each centre is a combination on a given geographical area, companies, training centres and research units engaged in public or private synergy around innovative projects. 71 projects were labelled out of 144 registered, knowing around ten projects have a worldwide mission. Centres on nanotechnology, automotive, aerospace, food, health, etc can be found, without forgetting nuclear power of course.

In July 2005, the government labelled the Nuclear Centre of Bourgogne, which has the potential development of nuclear activity worldwide. As a European-based reference, it is dedicated to the life extension of nuclear plants, and to the lastest generation EPR reactor production. Its aim is to create a real industry capable of producing most of key components of nuclear power plants of the third generation (EPR - European Pressurized Reactor), and later on, the fourth generation. The challenge is to master in France the whole EPR manufacturing process. The R & D projects should help to anticipate the coming of future players, including China, keeping a technological edge.

The Nuclear Centre of Bourgogne is composed of large French companies (AREVA, CEA, INDUSTEEL CREUSOT, EDF), academic and research institutions, as well as about fifty SMEs. FERRY CAPITAIN was one of the first company out of Bourgogne area to incorporate this competitiveness centre, and will promote its know-how to increase its overall market position in heavy equipments and services dedicated to Nuclear technology

Certified « Protector of the Environment »

FERRY-CAPITAIN is one of the first high capacity foundries in France to have obtained ISO 14001 Environmental certification.

To develop its operations in a responsible and ethical manner, and cognizant of the importance of protecting the environment in doing so, FERRY-CAPITAIN committed to a continuous improvement program in late 2007 with the goal of obtaining environmental certification.
Two years were needed to optimize the use of raw materials, to reduce energy consumption, and to limit waste.
The company analyzed its environmental impacts, defined an environmental management program with targeted actions, created a steering committee to co-ordinate the numerous initiatives, and communicated regularly with all employees to convey the goals and to report on the progress of the program.  Detailed reviews of all operating practices, including purchasing procedures, manufacturing methods and waste treatment and handling, were completed and resulted in new operating instructions being implemented.
In the search for permanent progress, the company intensified its efforts in the training and increasing of awareness of all employees, regardless of their position.
The company has also implemented « Lean » programs during the past year to remain in step with its customers’ requirements to assure the supply of quality products and services on a globally competitive basis.
